Thank you for highlighting this issue and the devastating economic impact it has on our communities. As a working parent, it often feels like I’m screaming into the void about this problem. Between my two toddlers we spend $2,790 a month. It’s not sustainable.

I know there are several house bills (HB 3008, HB 2452, and HB 2593) that are intended to address some of the points you describe. I would love to know your thoughts on these and whether you think they adequately address the crisis (and can be implemented effectively). Thanks again for your leadership and sharing your insights!

And we have almost the opposite problem in Multnomah County where the disaster of a tax “Preschool for nearly no one” is collecting hundreds of millions of dollars, providing a pittance of preschool spots (to a select few) and driving taxpayers out of Multnomah County. It’s a complete mess. That’s what we get for passing a tax designed and written by the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America).

Yeah, it’s a disaster. They sold it as this big win for families, but what did we get? Hundreds of millions in taxes, barely any preschool spots, and people fleeing Multnomah County.

It’s like buying a high-end truck that breaks down the second you drive it off the lot. Great idea on paper, terrible execution. If they’re going to take that kind of money, it better actually work. Right now, it’s just driving people away and making taxpayers mad.

Are you sure you're a Republican? Shouldn't you be talking about Greenland and birth-right citizenry?

Seriously, I like what you have to say and would recommend 2 books, "Holding It Together" and the "Nordic Theory of Everything". See Tillamook Pioneer for reviews.

We were able to be daycare for my single-dad son, gratis, that's what families do, right. By the time his daughter was 12, he was able to buy a house.

P.S. I like your choice of committees.

Appreciate the message, Jim, and glad to hear we’re on the same page about some of these issues—even if my GOP credentials seem a little questionable to you!

I’ll have to check out those books—thanks for the recommendations. And you're absolutely right, family support is huge. Not everyone has that safety net, though, which is why tackling the childcare crisis matters. It’s about making sure parents can find options when they need them so more stories like your son’s become the norm.

Also, glad to hear you like the committees. They keep me busy, but the work matters!
