Thank you for highlighting this issue and the devastating economic impact it has on our communities. As a working parent, it often feels like I’m screaming into the void about this problem. Between my two toddlers we spend $2,790 a month. It’s not sustainable.

I know there are several house bills (HB 3008, HB 2452, and HB 2593) that are intended to address some of the points you describe. I would love to know your thoughts on these and whether you think they adequately address the crisis (and can be implemented effectively). Thanks again for your leadership and sharing your insights!

And we have almost the opposite problem in Multnomah County where the disaster of a tax “Preschool for nearly no one” is collecting hundreds of millions of dollars, providing a pittance of preschool spots (to a select few) and driving taxpayers out of Multnomah County. It’s a complete mess. That’s what we get for passing a tax designed and written by the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America).
