OK, so where do we start to make government more efficient? If businesses behave the way govt agencies do, they go out of business. But govt has no accountability and no consequences.

Govt is busted, broken, doesn't work. Nice article, man. But I don't care about well written articles. I just want the debt paid down, inflation reduced, healthy food and water, and my daughters to be able to afford a home and a middle class life with the ability to save for retirement. Can you make that happen?

So far they haven't done much to show that anything is working. Right now we have 12 City Council members instead of the original 4 with a salary that is close to double what the former City Council members were making and there's no action, no change and no more communication than we had with the last members. How would one start this transformation? 😫

What is it about the current left that makes them unable to admit this? Beyond the obvious problem of their unhealthy coziness with public sector unions, the abolishment of which would be a good start?

I feel we have reached the point where the only way out of this mess is some sort of UBI, perhaps coupled to a more active, participatory economy. One where the UBI effectively replaces just about any and all government assistance (not including healthcare, which is its own issue, with its own set of problems). No applications, no re-applying, no government check ins, no audits, no waiting on the phone for hours, no wondering what the hell the document the government sent you means, no appeals process. None of that. Just send people a check. If not all of them, then means test it. Or tax it over a certain amount if worried wealthy people don't need it.

I also say participatory economy because I feel that while one can be frustrated with, or detest the government, I don't feel the fundamental capitalist system provides for enough good jobs much anymore. Millions of people are hurting, left behind, can't find meaningful, stable work. No tax cut or incentive, or regulation cut, or tariff, is going to change that, no matter how many times we try over and over like we've been doing. And this is only going to get worse when AI chews into more and more and more jobs, which is inevitable.

Let down yes. But it's deeper. Let down might mean forgotten..but now money is thrown out by the hundred thousands for them..they hear it. But it doesn't reach them.

Most people now feel, conservatives, that Democrats plan against them.. especially private sector anything..from a house ownership to a job.

That is true

I do not think conservatives ever plan that way.

Fair point. The truth is, both sides have played that game—rewarding their allies and leaving others behind. That’s part of why trust is so broken. People don’t feel forgotten, they feel targeted. And too often, they’re right.
