Winning elections is never just about getting votes—it’s about understanding the people, the issues, and how to be efficient with resources. In this analysis, I want to break down the most recent numbers from Clatsop, Tillamook, and Columbia counties, as well as the cost-effectiveness of our campaign and how we compared to other candidates in 2024. Let’s dive into what these numbers tell us about our district and our campaign strategy.
Breaking Down the Battle: County-by-County Results
The election results show some interesting trends across the three counties, each reflecting a unique political landscape.
Clatsop County: I received 10,638 votes, which translated to 49.41% of the total. My opponent, Davis, got 10,853 votes, or 50.41%. This close result demonstrates how evenly split the voters are in this region. Despite the Democratic registration advantage of 2,606 voters, we almost matched their numbers through targeted outreach and strong voter engagement efforts.
Tillamook County: Tillamook showed a much clearer preference, with 8,424 votes for me, resulting in 55.02% of the total, while Davis garnered 6,852 votes, or 44.76%. Our success here was due to our emphasis on local issues that matter to the people of Tillamook—this county leaned in our favor more decisively, especially as we addressed key community concerns.
Columbia County: In Columbia County, I received 871 votes, amounting to 62.80% of the vote, while Davis received 513 votes, or 36.99%. This county has a significant number of unaffiliated voters, and our strategy to connect with these voters was highly successful. We focused on practical, community-first messages that resonated beyond party lines, leading to a clear victory here.
How We Stacked Up Against Other Candidates
It’s useful to compare our results with those of other Republican candidates running for various offices in the district.
Trump: In Clatsop County, Trump received 9,587 votes, or 42.54%. In Tillamook, he garnered 49.17%, and in Columbia, 55.18%. My performance in each county either matched or surpassed Trump’s, which suggests our local message had greater appeal.
Linthicum (Secretary of State): Linthicum's performance was similar in Clatsop County with 42.87% of the vote, but I performed better in all three counties, demonstrating a broader connection with local voters.
Boquist (Treasurer): Boquist managed 51.51% in Tillamook County, which was close to my 55.02%. However, I consistently achieved higher percentages across the board.
Lathrop (Attorney General): Lathrop had strong showings in Tillamook and Columbia counties, with 52.34% and 58.51% respectively. Nevertheless, my campaign managed to surpass these results, particularly due to our outreach efforts to unaffiliated voters.
Voter Registration: Turning Numbers into Votes
The voter registration data reveals important trends. In Clatsop and Tillamook counties, the Democratic registration advantage was notable, with 10,156 Democrats compared to 7,550 Republicans in Clatsop. Despite this, our focus on unaffiliated voters and building a broad coalition enabled us to achieve strong results. Turnout was high, with 70% of voters casting ballots, indicating a well-engaged electorate.
The Democratic registration advantage meant we had to work harder to close the gap, and the numbers suggest we did just that. In both Clatsop and Tillamook, even though Democrats had more registered voters, our campaign’s direct engagement strategy was able to bring Republicans and many unaffiliated voters to our side.
Key Takeaways for Future Campaigns
This election showed that being efficient with resources and focusing on the community can make a big difference. Despite having fewer registered Republicans, we were able to secure a win by emphasizing issues that mattered to everyone, not just one party.
Moving forward, it’s clear that reaching out to unaffiliated voters and focusing on local, tangible issues is the key to building support. The data tells a story of effective, efficient campaigning that puts the community first—something we’ll continue to build on as we look ahead.
Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign and contributed to this victory. Let’s keep working together for a better future for our district.
I'm still amazed at how many counties are still voting BLUE! I'm very disappointed at Portland's voting. The city is going down in flames and the majority of them are still voting progressive. 🙄😫
